Welcome to my blog, where I take pleasure in words and pictures, be they my own or those of others. I'm a creative individual, and the crafty side I explore on my 'other blog', Picking Up The Threads, which I hope you'll visit too. I'm sure you understand that I have sole copyright of my original work and any of my contributions, so please ask if you want to use them. A polite request is rarely refused. So, as they used to say on the BBC's 'Listen With Mother' radio programme, many years ago: "Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin."

Twenty Tiny Fingers, Twenty Tiny Toes
There are actually only ten tiny fingers, ten tiny toes in this picture, as my grandparents welcome their first great-grandchild, my niece, in 1970. Sadly my grandfather passed away a few months later, just short of his 73rd birthday, so never got to tickle the next set of ten fingers and toes belonging to my nephew. My grandmother did, but she never met the next two great-grandchildren as she died in 1977, when my daughter was a few days old.
My own parents met all four of their great-grandchildren, when my nephew and his wife became parents of first a boy, then a girl. Our own son and his wife managed all twenty tiny fingers and twenty tiny toes at once, by producing twins.
Dad is no longer with us, but the love he and Mum had to give, shines out from these photos.
Join us this month for Sepia Saturday to see what other contributors made of the prompt picture.

Precious pictures!
ReplyDeleteEight years on, the twenty fingers and toes are not so tiny, but they are still loved.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see the love expressed between grandparents and grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see these photos of love down the generations. Really nice pictures. And those new little people are so touching.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, though I admit it crosses my mind that certain ten tiny toes will be turning within 15 short years or so into ten huge toes on a pair of hairy feet belonging to a keen rugby player ! :)
It is good to see grandparents with their grandchildren. And kind of sad to think they are likely to miss some of them.
ReplyDeleteSue and Kristin these are the great-grandparents, another generation on, but the sentiment is still the same.
ReplyDeleteWill these photos ever be treasured by the children in them!! I have only a few of myself with my grandparents....great grandparents none. My brother-in-law is now a great great grandfather, which is quite a feat. The twins are adorable.
ReplyDeleteTheir love certainly does shine through - and I find it rather appropriate they happen to be sitting together in a loveseat in the last photo! :)
ReplyDeleteVery sweet pictures. My mother-in-law is in her 90s and has met three of her great grandchildren, but my mother never got to meet either of the two great granddaughters born before she died, because they lived in different continents. On current trends I rather doubt I'll still be around by the time any great grandchildren arrive!
ReplyDeleteOh those babies! My mother-in-law met and held most of her great-grandchildren, but she died just before the great-greats came along. When I am with my sweet little grands, I always think about how much my parents would have enjoyed them.
ReplyDeleteLovely family memories. My mother only ever saw one of her great grand children and she was 95 at the time and thrilled to bits.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos and memories, Nell.
